SABOTAGE – Book One: The Ghost Protocol (C-7)
✨ Chapter 7: “Alex Remembers”
---
INT. DIVISION 9 – OBSIDIAN WING
Alex stood in front of the Mirror Wall—an encrypted surface that didn’t reflect your image, only your data shadow.
His showed no name. No origin. Only a codename:
> “ARCHIVE: GHOSTWALKER-01”
He stared at it, unmoving, as files whispered across the wall.
> “Unauthorized flashbacks are increasing,” said a medic behind him.
“You should submit for sync correction.”
Alex didn’t answer.
He was already slipping into memory.
---
🔁 FLASHBACK – TEN YEARS AGO
LOCATION: Mombasa Industrial Freezone – Night
A younger Alex crouched beside a freight container, watching a rebel cell wire explosives beneath a black-market server bank.
He was Division 9’s first field test of NeuroTrace—a memory-detection tech that let agents extract truth through proximity.
He didn't ask questions. He followed protocols.
Until he scanned a little girl hiding behind the crates.
> “Agent 01,” his comm buzzed. “Remove the witness.”
But when he touched her skin, the NeuroTrace didn’t show fear.
It showed… his own face—but younger. Smiling.
He hesitated.
> “This is a glitch,” the handler barked. “Execute.”
But it wasn’t a glitch.
That girl was his sister.
He failed the mission. The girl vanished. The rebels escaped.
Division 9 wiped the incident—but not from Alex’s soul.
They punished him by erasing his entire origin sector.
---
🔁 FLASH-FORWARD – BACK TO PRESENT
Alex gripped the edge of the Mirror Wall, breath tight.
His hand trembled—not from fear, but from something worse: recognition.
> “Echo Drift detected,” the wall warned.
“Root exposure at 7%. Repress or restore?”
He pressed REPRESS.
But the image of that girl—the one Division 9 had erased—refused to leave.

INT. VAULT ARCHIVE 4A – NIGHT
He walked silently past frozen minds in cryo-columns, scanning each name.
> “One of you remembers who I used to be,” he muttered.
He stopped at one file:
> “PROJECT: REDWING”
AGENT: ALEX NDUNGU – ORIGINAL TEMPLATE
STATUS: LOCKED. MEMORY: CORRUPTED.
LINKED FILE: LENCY [CORE MATCH]
Alex’s eyes narrowed.
> “So that’s why I can feel her.”
“They built her from my failure.”
---
INT. KIM’S LAB – SAME NIGHT
Lency sat motionless in a feedback chair, faintly glowing lines drawn across her neck and arms as the Root Key continued syncing with her neural spine.
Kim hovered near, watching her vitals.
> “Your blood rejected the shut-down,” he muttered.
“You’re becoming something new, Lency.
Not just a saboteur. A memory virus.”
The words felt heavy.
> “And viruses don’t follow orders.”
---
INT. DIVISION 9 – ROOFTOP HELIPAD – LATER
Alex stood in the rain, staring at the city below—flashing neon, broken glass, echoes of the people he once protected, or tried to.
> “If she remembers what I did…”
He closed his eyes.
> “Then I deserve whatever comes next.”
